CPCCLSF2001- Licence to Erect, Alter and Dismantle Scaffolding Basic Level
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to safely perform basic scaffolding work.
Scaffolding work involves erecting, altering or dismantling a temporary structure to support a platform from which a person or object could fall more than four metres.
This unit applies to scaffolding work involving:
- modular or pre-fabricated scaffolds;
- cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load of 500 kg;
- ropes;
- gin wheels;
- safety nets and static lines;
- bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork).
Legislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit of competency.
This unit is based on the licensing requirements of Part 4.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations and meets Commonwealth, State and Territory HRWL requirements.
The National Assessment Instrument (NAI) is the mandated assessment for the HRWL to operate the relevant licencing class as detailed in this unit.
If you need to cancel your enrolment prior to the course commencing, we require at least 48 hours' notice.
If you cancel more than three enrolments within a calendar year, you will be required to contact us by phone to enrol in future courses. CFMEU Education and Training also reserves the right to apply fees for future enrolments.

- CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
- A current Work Safely at Heights ticket (RIIWHS204E or CPCCCM2012)
- No jewellery to be worn on hands.
- Stud earrings only.
- Long hair must be tied up at all times when out on the hard stand or shed.
- Any other items deemed unsafe by the Trainer and Assessor.
- Minimum 18 years of age

Training
Training delivered by CFMEU Education and Training consists of a structured combination of face-to-face classroom sessions, practical hands-on activities, and self-paced learning. This blended approach ensures that learners gain both the theoretical understanding and the practical skills required to perform effectively in the workplace.
The face-to-face classroom component provides opportunities for direct interaction with qualified trainers, group discussions, and collaborative learning experiences. Practical delivery takes place in simulated work environments, allowing learners to apply their knowledge and demonstrate competency using industry-standard tools, equipment, and procedures.
Self-paced learning supports these components by encouraging learners to take responsibility for their own progress through independent study. This may include reviewing learning materials, and study notes to reinforce understanding and skill development.
Assessment
Assessment consists of a comprehensive assessment process, including a Written Knowledge and Calculations Assessment to evaluate theoretical understanding, and a Practical Demonstration (Performance Assessment) to assess hands-on skills in simulated work environments.

Who should attend?
A basic scaffolding licence (class SB) is required for anyone who deals with prefabricated scaffolds and barrow hoists, commonly undertaken in construction.
This basic scaffolding course is for anyone who deals with:
- Modular or prefabricated scaffolds
- Cantilevered materials hoists with a maximum working load of 500 kg
- Ropes and gin wheels
- Safety nets and static lines
- Bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork)
What will you learn?
Our training provides participants with the skills and knowledge to perform scaffolding correctly and safely, including:
- Erection, alteration and dismantling of scaffolding structures
- Risk assessment and control
- Load capabilities and bearing pressures of different types of scaffolding constructions
- Uses and limitations of tools and equipment, appropriate to scaffolding tasks and activities
The program involves a combination of practical and theory-based learning in a face-to-face environment.
Is a scaffolding (SB) licence mandatory?
Under WorkSafe requirements, a person performing any basic scaffolding work is required to hold a basic scaffolding High-Risk Work Licence.
The CPCCLSF2001 – Licence to Erect, Alter and Dismantle Scaffolding Basic Level is nationally accredited training accepted all across Australia.
A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a High-Risk Work Licence (class SB) will be issued upon successful completion.
