CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
The CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry course is a unit of competency that specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work and is required to be completed to obtain your Construction White Card.
This unit The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
A White Card is required for:
- All persons who carry out construction work, including site managers and supervisors, surveyors
- Labourers and tradespersons, who access operational construction zones unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person
- All persons whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones

White Card Course Information
This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:
Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations.
Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia; and Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.
It is expected that site-specific induction training will be conducted prior to conducting construction work.

Get Your White Card in 1 Day!

What you will receive
Upon successful completion of the White Card course, participants will receive:
- A White Card Statement of Attainment
- A Construction Induction plastic card (which will be issued and mailed by WorkSafe Victoria)

What you will learn
White Card training covers health and safety legislative requirements of construction work, construction hazards and risk control measures, health and safety communication and reporting processes and incident and emergency response procedures.
CFMEU’s White Card training course consists of class activities, videos and an end-of-day assessment and is conducted by expert trainers.

Nationally accepted
WorkSafe VIC-issued plastic White Cards are nationally accepted all across Australia. It is a license required to access all construction sites Australia-wide and is required to conduct any further trade or construction training.
