RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skills Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
This nationally recognised training course equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to operate safely and competently within Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) Category 1 environments, as defined by the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Mangement. It is designed for individuals who are responsible for both controlling traffic using a stop/slow bat and implementing traffic management plans on urban streets and low-volume rural roads.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to control traffic in accordance with approved traffic guidance schemes, interpret and implement traffic management plans, and correctly set up, monitor, and remove temporary traffic control signage and equipment. The training also covers how to communicate effectively with both road users and site personnel, as well as how to work safely within relevant legislative and safety requirements.
This course ensures participants gain practical, job-ready experience in real or simulated environments that reflect current industry standards. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for both RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads and RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads.

Training
Training delivered by CFMEU Education and Training consists of a structured combination of face-to-face classroom sessions and practical hands-on activities. This blended approach ensures that learners gain both the theoretical understanding and the practical skills required to perform effectively in the workplace.
The face-to-face classroom component provides opportunities for direct interaction with qualified trainers, group discussions, and collaborative learning experiences. Practical delivery takes place in simulated work environments, allowing learners to apply their knowledge and demonstrate competency using industry-standard tools, equipment, and procedures.
Assessment
Assessment consists of a comprehensive assessment process, including a Written Knowledge Assessment (multiple choice, written questions) to evaluate theoretical understanding, and a Practical Demonstration (Performance Assessment) to assess hands-on skills in simulated work environments.
